Breast Revision Surgery in Baton Rouge, LA
Correct and Enhance Your Results.
You had your breast augmentation years ago. Since then, your body, your lifestyle, and your goals have all evolved, and the implants you once loved may no longer feel right. Perhaps they seem too large, too firm, or have begun to sag over time. Whatever has changed, you have options.
Breast revision is a procedure that corrects or updates the results of a previous breast augmentation or breast surgery. It is a broad category rather than a single operation, which means it can be tailored to your specific concern. Depending on your tissue quality and goals, revision may involve removing implants, exchanging them for a different size or type, adding a breast lift to improve shape and position, using your own fat to restore natural volume, or addressing the scar tissue, known as the capsule, that forms around an implant over time.
At Ford Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, board-certified mother-daughter duo Dr. Kate Chiasson and Dr. Ann Reilley help patients revisit and refresh the results of a previous breast procedure. They take the time to understand what is no longer working for you and design an individualized treatment plan around your unique goals and anatomy. Below, you will learn how breast revision surgery works, the options available to you, and how to decide whether it is the right next step.
Understanding Your Breast Surgery Options
Breast revision surgery can include any of the following, depending on your tissue quality and goals:
Explantation + Mastopexy + AFG
Mastopexy + Implant Exchange + Soft Tissue Support (“ internal bra”)
Mastopexy + Implant Exchange + AFG
Capsule Treatment, Implant Deflation, and What to Expect
In some cases, breast revision involves more than removing or exchanging an implant. Over time, your body naturally forms scar tissue, called the capsule, around an implant. When this tissue needs to be addressed, Dr. Kate may recommend removing or modifying it through a procedure known as a capsulotomy or capsulorrhaphy.
If you have saline implants, you may also be a candidate for pre-operative implant deflation, a quick, in-office procedure performed before your surgery. Deflating the implant ahead of time allows the "skin brassiere" to shrink and gives your surgeon a clearer picture of your actual breast volume. This added insight leads to greater accuracy in planning and executing your procedure.
Every breast revision is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, so you will return home the same day. Particularly complex cases may be staged as two separate procedures for the best possible result. Because each plan is tailored to your goals and tissue quality, both your cost and your recovery time will depend on the specific approach you and Dr. Kate choose together.
Why Patients Choose Breast Revision Surgery
Breast revision surgery addresses concerns from a previous breast augmentation or breast procedure. Common reasons include:
Implants that feel too large, small, or unnatural
Sagging or changes over time
Implant rupture or complications
Desire to remove or replace implants
Asymmetry or dissatisfaction with prior results
Every revision procedure is customized and may include implant removal, replacement, a breast lift, or fat grafting.

If you are unhappy with the results of a previous breast surgery, or if your breasts have changed over the years, revision may be a good option to explore. Some patients come to me because their implants no longer suit their body or lifestyle, while others are dealing with sagging, firmness, or a complication that has developed over time. There is no wrong reason to want a change, and during your consultation we will talk through your concerns and whether revision is the right path for you.

Yes. One of the things I love about revision surgery is how customizable it is. Your implants can be exchanged for a different size or type, removed altogether, or replaced with a combination approach that better fits who you are today. We will discuss what has changed and design a plan that reflects your current goals rather than the ones you had years ago.

It depends on your tissue and the look you are hoping to achieve, but many patients do benefit from combining a lift with their revision. Over time, the skin and tissue can stretch, and a lift helps restore a more youthful shape and position that an implant change alone may not fully address.
