Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape the nose. Commonly referred to as a “nose job,” rhinoplasty can permanently change the appearance of your nose and harmonize your facial features in a more pleasing manner.

Common conditions leading patients to consider rhinoplasty include a prominent hump, a beak-like appearance, a bulbous tip, nostril-flaring, or a variety of deformities resulting from nasal trauma. Incision placement will depend upon the correction needed. Your scars may be entirely hidden inside of the nose. If Dr. Chiasson needs more direct visualization to correct your problem she will place small scars on the outside of the nose in inconspicuous locations.

If you have difficulty breathing due to obstructing internal nasal structures your insurance may cover a portion of the surgical and facility fee.

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. It is critical that your blood pressure is well controlled during and after surgery.  You will return to the office the day following surgery and then again at a week for the removal of your splint and sutures. You may then apply make-up if there are persistent bruises. You should avoid all activities which could cause injury to your newly reshaped nose for at least six weeks.

Facelift

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the face and neck in those with age-related changes to the skin and underlying supportive tissues. As we age there is relaxation of the facial skin and fat resulting in sagging and jowl formation. The fold lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth deepen. Laxity of the neck skin and unsupported fat result in a “double chin” or “turkey neck”.

How our faces age is dependent upon our genetic make-up, which is out of our control, as well as the lifestyle choices that we make. The two biggest causes of premature aging are excessive sun exposure and smoking. Aging is inevitable but can be tempered by a skin-specific routine of care, daily and sufficient application of sunscreen/sunblock, and timely use of neurotoxins and fillers. Such steps may prolong the need for a facelift, but will never replace it.

Decades ago face lifting techniques were solely dependent upon removing excess skin which often resulted in a tight, unnatural appearance.  The modern facelift repositions fat and supporting tissues into their more youthful position resulting in a longer-lasting, more subtle, and more natural facial appearance.

A recent phenomenon is that the patient’s age at the time of a facelift is younger than in the previous generation. Patients aren’t waiting until they are in their sixties to undergo surgery. It is not usual to see facelift patients in their late forties or early fifties. While this may seem counterintuitive, having a facelift when your skin and tissues are firmer leads to a correction that lasts longer. And more men than ever are having facial cosmetic surgery as well. Motivators include workforce pressures and a desire to feel more self-confident in the world of dating.

A facelift may be done under local anesthesia with monitored sedation or general surgery. It can be combined with other procedures such a forehead lift or eyelid surgery. Most often facelift surgery is outpatient surgery.

You will be seen by the doctor the day after surgery for a dressing change and removal of any drains. Your recovery will depend upon the extent of the surgery and whether or not any ancillary procedures were done. Light activity is permitted the day following surgery progressing to more normal activities over the next two weeks. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for six weeks.

Of course, as soon as the last stitch has been placed, the aging process will start again. To best maintain your rejuvenated appearance it will be very important to integrate medical-grade skincare and sun protection into your daily routine. A maintenance program of nonsurgical treatments such as neurotoxins and fillers administered by a physician will aid in prolonging your beautiful result.

Neck Lift

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves skin and muscle laxity in the jawline and neck. You may be a candidate for a neck lift if you have excess fat and skin relaxation that create jowls, fat deposits under the chin, loose neck skin, or muscle bands in the neck. These conditions can be caused by normal aging, excessive weight loss, or genetics.

This surgery can be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as forehead lift or eyelid surgery. It can be performed under local anesthesia with monitored sedation or under general anesthesia. The normal recovery period is relatively brief.

Dr. Chiasson will advise you on what the operation can and cannot achieve in your particular case.

Brow Lift

A browlift is a cosmetic procedure to raise the eyebrows. It is also known as a forehead lift or forehead  rejuvenation. Aging typically causes the brows to move down. The lower position of the eyebrows may  cause you to look tired, angry, or sad. A brow lift will raise brows that are hooding the upper eyelids and  reposition them in an alert and youthful position. It will also reduce horizontal forehead lines and soften frown lines. Removing excess tissue, altering muscles, and tightening the forehead skin results in a  relaxed and more youthful appearance.

A forehead lift may be performed alone or with other facial rejuvenation surgeries such and facelift,  blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) or autologous fat grafting (AFG). The browlift may be done through  three small scalp incisions (endoscopic brow lift), or an incision at the hairline or scalp (coronal brow  lift).

At your consultation Dr. Chiasson will listen carefully to your concerns to create a customized surgical plan. All patients interested in facial rejuvenation will receive a complimentary skin evaluation with our  master aesthetician MeLisa Stalter. MeLisa is a certified ZO skin health expert and offers nonsurgical  facial rejuvenation with our inMode Morpheus 8 laser.

The surgery is done under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Recovery time varies depending on the  treatment plan selected. Results are best enhanced and maintained with proper skincare.

Forehead Lift

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is a cosmetic surgery used to elevate eyebrows that are drooping resulting in a tired appearance and may even obstruct vision. An incision is placed within the hairline or scalp. After the forehead skin and underlying tissue is elevated, the brows are positioned in a more youthful, rested position. If you are a nonsmoker in good health bothered by the aged appearance of your upper face, a forehead lift may be a good option.

Dr. Chiasson will discuss your concerns and together you can create a plan that meets your needs.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

You’ve heard the expression “the eyes are the mirrors to the soul”. As a part of the important central triangle of the face, your eyes are one of the first facial features that others notice about you.

Eyelid skin is thin and subject to premature aging changes from excessive sun exposure. As the upper eyelid stretches over time it may sag and interfere with makeup application. Attempts to raise the lid by elevating the brows will lead to forehead wrinkling. Once the upper eyelid skin touches the lash line you may lose peripheral vision. Those with allergic conditions may suffer from repeated bouts of swelling that give a puffy, tired appearance. Aging lower eyelids may droop making you look fatigued.

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can remove excess skin, redundant muscle, and fat and reposition these structures into their more youthful position. Eyelid surgery is performed as an office procedure under local anesthesia and light sedation. Most patients experience a few days of swelling and bruising with a fairly quick return to normal activities.

If your excess upper eyelid skin is impairing your vision, your surgery may be covered by insurance. Your ophthalmologist can perform a visual field test which will help you have the operation paid for (partially or totally) by your insurance.

Not infrequently the surgical result is enhanced by the judicious use of neurotoxins such as Botox or Jeuveau combined with medical-grade skincare.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Today there is a tremendous interest in non-surgical facial rejuvenation as many patients wish to regain a more youthful appearance without undergoing surgery with its expense and scars. Various types of injectable fillers, carefully placed in strategic areas such as the cheekbones and area around the mouth, can postpone the need for surgery for many years. Fillers can be used in conjunction with neurotoxins such as Botox and Dysport. The toxins temporarily paralyze the muscles of expression which create wrinkles. Popular injection sites for toxins include the forehead, the periorbital “crow’s feet” and the glabella (the space between the eyebrows).

Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation is a popular cosmetic treatment to create fuller, plumper, more youthful lips using various types of injectable fillers. It is an office procedure performed with topical anesthetics. The most common type of filler is hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance so allergic reactions are uncommon. Depending on the exact filler, the results last between 6-12 months.

Dr. Chiasson will discuss your goals and concerns with you. You will have a few days of swelling and possibly bruising after the injection.
